things you thought you heard

lean back until there's only up
and watch the world pass by
blue afternoon and pale clouds
amid a muffled greying sky

the sound of something on the wind
too far away to listen in
like someone somewhere calling out
a distant and forgotten shout
numbed unto noise and wind and air
the voice of all that isn't there
